Berwick is a suburb with two personalities. Around High Street and the streets running off it, you find the old village: established trees, older brick and weatherboard homes, wide blocks and the feel of a country town that has been absorbed into Melbourne. South of the Princes Highway and the railway line, toward Clyde Road and Berwick Springs, the suburb opens up into newer estates with brick veneer family homes, wide footpaths and young street trees. Both halves have a steady need for good handyman work, but the jobs are often different.
We provide handyman services across all of Berwick 3806, from the homes near Wilson Botanic Park to the estates around Berwick Springs, and from the streets near Akoonah Park to the units and townhouses close to the station and Casey Hospital. Whether you have one job or a long list, we can help.

Older homes around the village
The streets around High Street, Peel Street and the slopes toward Wilson Botanic Park include some of the oldest housing in the City of Casey. Homes here range from mid-century brick and weatherboard houses to renovated period-style homes and newer infill townhouses on subdivided blocks.
Older homes bring familiar jobs. Timber window sills and door frames soften where paint has failed. Internal doors drift out of square as houses settle, so they rub or will not latch. Weatherboards near the ground need occasional replacement. Picture rails, older skirting profiles and architraves sometimes need matching when sections are damaged. We take care to keep the character of these homes, matching profiles where possible rather than replacing everything with modern trims.
Large established trees are part of what makes old Berwick attractive, but they also fill gutters, drop branches on fences and shade decks so timber stays damp. Gutter cleaning before winter and after heavy leaf drop in autumn is a regular job in these streets, and timber decks under trees often need cleaning, re-oiling and the occasional board replacement.
Berwick Springs and the southern estates
South of the railway line, Berwick Springs and the estates around Clyde Road and Centenary Road were mostly built from the late 1990s onward. These are typically brick veneer homes with plasterboard interiors, tiled wet areas, Colorbond or timber paling fences and outdoor living areas.
Homes in these estates are now old enough for the first round of wear: silicone in showers turning mouldy and peeling, grout cracking, cupboard hinges sagging, flyscreens tearing, fence palings loosening and gates dropping. Plasterboard dents and holes from door handles and furniture are common in busy family homes. These are exactly the jobs a handyman is best placed to fix, often several in one visit.
The lakes and parkland around Berwick Springs are a great feature of the area, but properties backing onto open space often have long boundary fences that take a beating from wind. Refixing palings, replacing rails and straightening gates is a regular request.
Near the station and Casey Hospital
The area around Berwick station, Clyde Road and Casey Hospital has a mix of units, townhouses and apartments alongside older homes. Many of these are rentals or owned by investors, and smaller homes mean different priorities: making the most of storage, mounting TVs to save floor space and keeping on top of end-of-lease repairs.
For landlords and property managers with properties near the station or the hospital precinct, we provide reliable rental repairs between tenancies, with photos of the work for your records. See our property managers page for how we work with agencies.
Acreage on the fringe
Toward Harkaway and the hills on Berwick’s northern edge, blocks become larger, with sheds, long driveways, gates, rural-style fencing and more outdoor timber. Jobs here include gate repairs, shed shelving, deck and verandah maintenance, and pressure washing of paths and outdoor areas. For more on the hills, see our Harkaway and Narre Warren North pages.

Shops and businesses on High Street
Berwick’s High Street has cafés, boutiques, professional offices and services that occasionally need small repairs: a sticking door, shelving for stock, a sign bracket, patched walls between tenancies or a tidy-up before a fit-out. We can work outside trading hours to avoid disrupting customers. See our commercial handyman page.
Making a Berwick home easier to live in
Berwick has a large population of older residents who have lived in the area for decades and want to stay in their homes. Simple changes make a big difference: grab rails in bathrooms and toilets, rails beside steps, lever door handles, brighter globes in dark hallways, and removing trip hazards like lifted carpet edges. We install grab rails and accessibility aids fixed securely into studs or masonry. If you are working with an occupational therapist or a home care package, we can install to their recommendations.
Seasonal jobs in Berwick
Autumn
Leaves from the established trees around the village and Wilson Botanic Park fill gutters fast. Autumn is the best time for gutter cleaning before winter rain.
Winter
Draughts become noticeable, and condensation can lead to mould on window frames and bathroom ceilings. Draught sealing, re-siliconing and minor mould treatment are common winter jobs.
Spring
Spring is the time to wash down paths, decks and outdoor areas, repair flyscreens before summer and fix fences after winter winds.
Summer
Outdoor living means decks, pergolas and outdoor furniture get heavy use. Deck repairs, re-oiling and flat-pack outdoor furniture assembly are common.
Why use a local handyman
A handyman based in the south-east knows the housing, the soil and the weather. Clay soils in parts of Casey move with wet and dry seasons, which shows up as cracks in cornices and doors that bind. Wind off the hills tests fences. Leaf fall around the old village fills gutters. Understanding these local patterns helps us fix problems properly rather than just covering them up.
How we work
- You tell us about the job, with photos if possible, using our quote form
- We review it and reply with questions or a written quote
- We book a time that suits you
- We arrive with the materials and tools needed
- We complete the work, clean up and take away the rubbish
- We show you what we have done before we leave
We do not publish prices, because every job is different. A quote based on your actual job is more useful than a generic price list.

What we do not do
Some work needs licensed trades. We do not do electrical, plumbing, gas or structural building work, and we do not remove asbestos. If your job needs a licensed trade, we will tell you. For larger renovations, a builder is usually the right choice.
Getting around Berwick
Berwick is well connected by the Princes Highway, the Monash Freeway exits at Clyde Road and Berwick-Cranbourne Road, and Clyde Road running north–south. We cover every street in the suburb, plus neighbouring Narre Warren, Narre Warren South, Harkaway and the rest of our service areas.
Common questions from Berwick homeowners
Many of the questions we hear are about combining jobs. Can we patch the hallway wall, fix the laundry door and hang the new mirror in one visit? Usually yes. Can we fix the gate and the fence palings at the same time? Yes. Sending a list with photos lets us plan the visit, bring the right materials and give you a single quote.
Preparing a Berwick home for sale
Homes around the village and Berwick Springs attract strong buyer interest, and presentation matters. Before listing, it pays to fix the small defects buyers notice: patched holes, sticking doors, mouldy silicone, damaged flyscreens, a leaning letterbox and a tired front door. We can work through a pre-sale list in a day or two so the house photographs well and inspects cleanly.
New owners in Berwick
If you have just bought in Berwick, you may have a list of jobs from the building inspection report, plus things you want to change: new shelves, TV mounting, curtain rods, childproofing and garden tidy-ups. We can handle the handyman items on the report and refer you to licensed trades for the rest.
