On a warm Casey evening you want the windows open and the breeze coming through, without the mosquitoes, flies and moths following it in. That only works if the flyscreens are intact and fit their frames. Torn mesh, bent frames, missing screens and windows that will not open or lock properly all get in the way of a comfortable house.
We repair windows and flyscreens across Berwick, Narre Warren and the City of Casey. From rescreening torn mesh to replacing worn window rollers and catches, we can get windows opening, closing and locking smoothly and screens keeping insects out.

Rescreening flyscreens
Most flyscreens are aluminium frames with mesh held in by a rubber spline pressed into a channel. Torn mesh is replaced by removing the old spline and mesh, laying new mesh over the frame and rolling in new spline so the mesh is tight and even. We use standard fibreglass mesh, aluminium mesh, or stronger pet-resistant mesh depending on the situation. Rescreening is usually done on site.
New flyscreens
If a screen is missing, beyond repair or was never fitted, we can measure and make a new screen to suit. Aluminium frames are cut, assembled with corner stakes and fitted with mesh and the correct clips or springs for your window type. Matching the frame colour to your windows is usually possible from standard colours.
Sliding screen doors
Sliding screen doors are often the first thing to go in a family home. The mesh gets pushed out by pets and kids, the rollers wear and drag, and the door jumps out of its track. We rescreen, replace rollers, adjust heights so the door slides freely and replace handles and latches. Where the frame is badly bent, a new door may be the better option.
Security doors
Steel and aluminium security doors with mesh or grilles protect entrances. We can adjust hinges and closers, replace handles and replace standard mesh. Security mesh such as stainless steel woven mesh, and keyed locks with security ratings, are often best handled by a security door specialist.

Windows that will not slide
Aluminium sliding windows run on rollers at the bottom of the sash. When rollers wear out or tracks fill with grit and dead insects, windows become hard to open. We remove the sash, clean the track, replace rollers where parts are available and refit the window. The difference is usually immediate.
Awning and casement windows
Awning windows, hinged at the top and pushed out with a winder, are common in newer Casey homes. Winders strip, chains break, and stays get stiff. We replace winders and stays and adjust windows so they close and seal properly.
Locks and catches
Window locks and catches are important for security and child safety. We replace broken catches, fit keyed locks and install restrictors that limit how far a window opens. In Victoria, building regulations for new homes include requirements for openable windows in bedrooms above certain heights to restrict openings to protect children from falls. Even in older homes, restrictors are a sensible safety measure, especially in upstairs bedrooms.
Timber windows
Older homes in Berwick and farmhouses around Harkaway and Narre Warren North may have timber double-hung sash windows. These use cords and weights in the frame, which can break, causing the sash to drop. Repairs can involve replacing sash cords, easing sticking sashes and refitting beads. We can carry out many of these repairs without removing glass. Glass replacement is a job for a glazier.
Glass
We do not cut or replace glass. Broken window glass should be replaced by a glazier, who can also advise on safety glass requirements. Once glass is replaced, we can repair frames, screens and hardware.

Seals and draughts
Perished weather seals on sliding windows and doors let in draughts, dust and noise. Replacing pile seals and rubber seals can make rooms warmer in winter and quieter. We match seal sizes to your frames where parts are available.
Mesh options
- Standard fibreglass mesh: affordable and suitable for most windows
- Aluminium mesh: stronger and longer lasting, more resistant to tearing
- Pet mesh: thicker, resists claws and pushing, ideal for screen doors
- Fine mesh: helps keep out smaller insects such as midges
- Stainless steel mesh: used in security screens and bushfire-prone areas
In bushfire-prone areas on the fringes of Casey, such as parts of Harkaway and Narre Warren East, ember protection requirements may apply to screens on new and renovated homes. Check with a building surveyor if you are unsure.

What to send for a quote
Photos of each damaged screen or window, the size of the screen if you can measure it, and the frame colour. For screen doors, a photo of the whole door and its track. If you are not sure what type of window you have, a photo from inside and out helps.

Preparing for summer
Spring is the best time to sort out flyscreens before mosquitoes and flies arrive. A walk around the house checking every screen, rescreening the torn ones and making new screens for any missing windows means you can open the house up on the first hot night. For rental properties, intact flyscreens are a common tenant request and worth checking between tenancies.
Windows in Casey homes
Homes from the 1970s to 1990s in Hampton Park, Hallam, Narre Warren and Narre Warren South mostly have aluminium sliding windows, often with original rollers and seals that have worn out. Newer homes in Lynbrook, Lyndhurst and Berwick Springs have awning windows and sliding doors with modern hardware. Older homes near Berwick village may have timber windows. Each needs different parts and approaches.
Screens that fall out
Flyscreens that fall out in the wind or when the window is opened usually have missing or broken clips, springs or a frame that has been bent slightly undersize. We replace the clips or adjust the frame so the screen sits firmly. Screens that are too big or too small for the opening may need to be remade.
Fixed screens versus removable
Most window flyscreens are removable for cleaning. Some homes have fixed screens, which are easier to keep in place but harder to clean behind. We can fit screens with the clip or spring type that suits how you want to use them.
Child safety and windows
Falls from windows are a known risk to young children, particularly from upstairs bedrooms and windows near furniture they can climb. Flyscreens are not designed to hold a child’s weight. Window restrictors or locks that limit openings, combined with keeping furniture away from windows, are the recommended approach. We can fit restrictors to most aluminium and timber windows.

Cleaning tracks
Sliding window and door tracks collect dust, insects, leaves and grit, which wear rollers and make windows stiff. Regular vacuuming and wiping of tracks, and keeping weep holes clear, keeps windows sliding and stops water building up in the track during rain. We clean tracks as part of roller replacement.
Larger sliding doors
Glass patio doors in family rooms and alfresco areas are heavy and used constantly. When rollers wear, they become hard to move and can damage the track. Replacing patio door rollers often needs two people to lift the door out safely. We can replace rollers, adjust height, and replace handles and locks on many common door types. Damaged tracks may need a specialist.
Ventilation without the bugs
Good ventilation helps reduce condensation, mould and stuffiness in winter as well as keeping homes cool in summer. Working flyscreens on bedroom, kitchen and bathroom windows let you ventilate those rooms more often, and are one of the simplest ways to improve comfort in an older home.
Insect screens for doors to the yard
The laundry door, back door and the sliding door to the alfresco are the doors used most in summer, and leaving them open without a screen invites flies inside while the barbecue is on. Hinged screen doors, sliding screen doors and retractable screens are all options, depending on the door and how it is used. We repair existing screen doors and can fit replacement screen doors in standard sizes. For custom security screen doors, a specialist supplier is usually the better choice.
Condensation and window seals
In winter, many Casey homes get condensation on aluminium window frames, which can lead to mould on sills and seals. While double glazing is the real fix, replacing perished seals, cleaning and treating mould on frames, and improving ventilation all help reduce the problem.
Keys and locks you cannot find
Keyed window locks are only useful if you can find the key. Many people move into a house with locked windows and no keys. We can replace the locks with a new keyed set, supplying the keys, or fit a different type of lock that suits your household better.
Frequently asked questions
Can you rescreen my existing flyscreens?
Yes. If the frame is sound, we replace the mesh and spline on site so the screen is tight and even again. Bent frames can often be straightened or repaired.
Can you make new flyscreens?
Yes. We measure your windows and make new aluminium screens with the correct clips or springs, in a colour to suit your frames.
My sliding window is hard to open. Can you fix it?
Usually, yes. Most stiff sliding windows have worn rollers or dirty tracks. We clean the track and replace rollers where parts are available.
Do you replace broken glass?
No. Glass replacement is done by a glazier. We repair frames, screens, hardware and seals.
Can you install window restrictors?
Yes. We fit restrictors and keyed locks to limit how far windows open, which is an important safety measure for homes with young children.
